Just wondering, I really love the drum as it is, but I think the head would be more comfortable with a skyndeep (now it´s summer here and your fingers get sticky on the mylar heads), and I´ve read that a 9" skyndeep would just fit.
Unfortunately, I can´t measure the drum right now, but I´ll do it later.

Re: Somebody put a Skyndeep in a Hossam Ramzy Signature drum?
Wed, August 19, 2009 - 7:16 AMThat is funny you brought that up because I was contemplating doing the same with my Souhail Kaspar drum. I was afraid it might dampen the sound, but I met a guy last weekend with the same exact drum, but with a SkynDeep on it and it was still just as loud. -

Re: Somebody put a Skyndeep in a Hossam Ramzy Signature drum?
Wed, August 19, 2009 - 11:57 AMI did the same when I had mine, and while I wasn't checking for volume it did improve the tone and tuning stability. -

Re: Somebody put a Skyndeep in a Hossam Ramzy Signature drum?
Sat, August 22, 2009 - 11:07 PMSince we are kind of on the subject of Hossam and Souhail's drum, can someone tell me if the have seen a consistency in the quality of Hossam's drums?
I met someone last week who had the same Souhail drum that I had, but the inlay and the inside coating was a little poorer quality than mine (although the drum still sounded freak'n awesome). I was curious with Hassam's simple design if that made a difference? -

Mon, August 24, 2009 - 1:21 PMif your worried about fingers sticking to the mylar heads rub your hands with baby powder. works everytime. -

Re: Somebody put a Skyndeep in a Hossam Ramzy Signature drum?
Wed, August 26, 2009 - 1:53 PMI tried doing the baby powder thang. Leaves a grimey sticky residue.
One thing I found out when I took the decal off my drum skins, it made the skins cleaner. Clean drumskins, like clean human skins, are not sticky.
I also tried cleaning the riq skin I have from Cooperman with alcohol. EWWWW! Jeffrey, where'd you take that thing? It was nasty. Probably was years of humus and pita residue. You wouldn't believe it would play better but it does now. :-) -

Sheesha smoke, Gyro, Kebobs, and deep frier for felafel. I played a lot of clubs and that riqq always stayed out on the table next to me.
It was SEASONED! ;-) (I promise that I didn't do anything "nasty" around it!) -

Re: Somebody put a Skyndeep in a Hossam Ramzy Signature drum?
Tue, September 1, 2009 - 6:47 AMI always use talcum powder, it´s a habit I got from the Indian tabla.
But I like to clean all the heads every 6 months or so, in the case of the Indian tabla, I use gently a veeeeery soft sandpaper that removes the talcum excess on the skin and the syahi and lets the head clean as new. By the way, that gave me an idea and... well, I´ll start another thread to explain what I did, haha.
Regarding to the HR, the playing surface is 22,7 cm (sorry, I can´t measure inches). Probably a 9" skyndeep is too much?

Re: Somebody put a Skyndeep in a Hossam Ramzy Signature drum?
Sun, August 30, 2009 - 9:38 AMI can't speak for what it would do to a Hossam Ramzy drum, but I put a Skyndeep on my etched copper doumbek and it improved the sound vastly.
My wife commented that my drumming sounded as if I had been playing for 10 years longer than I actually have in just spending an hour replacing the head.
I did a little caliper checking and the head that originally came with my drum is thicker and likely contributed to the seeming muted sound. So that head now resides on my darbuka with jingles for back-beat and veil peices.

Thu, September 17, 2009 - 6:00 AMHi.
If someone is interested.
Two days ago, I put a fiberskyn in the Hossam drum. It fitted the 9" Powerbeat head, and sounds amazing.
You can see some photos in my profile. -
