One thing I've noticed is Faisal Qarshi goes

    (LLR) L R

while , from memory, Issam's goes

    (RLL) R L

      Hey Ignatius,
The Qarshi that I did is a standard movement. All the Arabic drummers who play double strokes play it the same way. I know Issam's playing, he also does it the same way. It is natural to the double strokes style to go LLR L R. I can name so many of the Arabic drummers from the old and new generation who would say the same thing. There are two ways to start the movement. the first one is LLR L R (RA TA TAK RA TA TAK RA TA TAK) and the second one is RLL R L (TAK RA TA TAK RA TA TAK RA TA) you can try it and notice the effect. I believe Dominick(Drumdoc) knows what I am talking about, and maybe he can be of help to explain it farther.
The other thing is the two fingers style. I play with my ring and index fingers. I did notice other drummers who use their ring and middle fingers to produce the Qarshi. I get much crisper sound when I use my ring and index than using my ring and middle fingers. The ring and middle fingers are close to each other, so I do not have enough control over my middle finger. The index finger is far enough to give me that control . But again some people can produce the sound using ring and middle fingers.
      Thank you,

I also noticed his traditional Arabic style uses the ring and index finger on the top hand.

I tend to do it ring and middle finger.

I use ring and middle fingers. I guess it's a matter of preference and the way each one was trained. However because of that, my left index is weak and I find it difficult to use it in the turkish split finger technique (I have recently started to practice that). May be if I had been using it for the arabic finger roll, it might have been easier to use it also in the turkish style.
