Hi people.
I want to put a fiberskin or renaissance head in my Meinl. I am sure you guys will know which head size and/or model is the proper for my drum.
Here in Spain I can´t buy this kind of head so I´ll buy by Internet, do you know some good store for buying this stuff?
Thank you very much for your help.

Re: Remo fiberskin head for a Meinl He-3012
Thu, February 28, 2008 - 10:54 AMGot the head today. Diameter is perfect but the height is too much. Which means I cannot tighten enough to get the pitch I would like :-( Maybe I can find a metalworker for making a spacer. But I don't want to spent much money extra ... -

Re: Remo fiberskin head for a Meinl He-3012
Thu, February 28, 2008 - 11:05 AMHere's a stupid drummer trick:
If you have an older broken head from your doumbek and it is one of the "Alexandria" heads, remove the crimped bezel and you'l find that there is a steel ring that the mylar is wrapped around...... you want that steel ring. Now it is already the right diameter, but you'll notice that it's not welded together (I've always thought this was stupid), but it workes great as a spacer. Fit it into the groove of the rim of the drum so that it will rest on the metal rim of your new SkynDeep head when you start putting the tuning bolts back in. Make certain that the gap on your spacer ring doesn't show up at one of the tuning bolts or it will buzz. Make certain that it is centered in one of the spaces between the lugs. Voila! You can now tune up your drum.
This trick was passed on to me by Syrian drummer Amir Naoum (who is certainly NOT a stupid drummer) :). -

Re: Remo fiberskin head for a Meinl He-3012
Thu, February 28, 2008 - 11:26 AMThat's cool, Jeff. I may try that. I had the same problem with my Remo head. Someone in here suggested this to me, and it works pretty well. He said he got it from the Remo drums, which provide a nylon cord with their drums to do the same thing. I had some cord already in my closet. I measured the cord around the outside of the head, marked it with a sharpy and cut it on the mark. Next, I matched the ends together without overlapping, and wrapped them with about 2 inches of white cotton trainers tape I always have in my First Aid kit (I'm a former kids's soccer coach.) Then I did the same thing with the cord that you suggest with the metal spacer. I had to use two lengths of cord to make the bearing rim flush with the outer rim.
This works pretty well. It's kinda tricky to make sure the two cords don't slip out of place, and some extra small pieces of tape wrapped around the two cords at 3, 6 and 9 o'clock. But it works.
I wonder if that's a characteristic of these Remo heads to have a high crown like that? The world may never know.

Re: Remo fiberskin head for a Meinl He-3012
Thu, February 28, 2008 - 12:08 PMI took a totally unplayable "Alexandria" drum and turned it into a usable loaner drum using the method described by Jeffrey. It's one of the best uses of those blue Alexandria heads I can think of!

Re: Remo fiberskin head for a Meinl He-3012
Sun, March 9, 2008 - 12:08 PMHi.
After searching a lot, I think that my the best head for my Meinl is this:
www.drumfactorydirect.com/bmz_c...00.jpg
Because fits in the same type of turkish 8-lugs darbuka. The size is 8.44".
But is Fiberskyn, not Skyndeep! Does it feel very different?
For a Alexandria standard tabla seems to be better a 8 23/32" head, what do you think?
Thanks again and excuse my really bad English ;) -

Thu, October 8, 2009 - 10:43 PMNo no no!

Re: Remo fiberskin head for a Meinl He-3012
Fri, October 9, 2009 - 7:55 AMThat,´s right. I received it this week and I was very disappointed because it didn´t fit!
So, I´m now looking for a head that fits the Meinl, I think it should make 8,5 inches or 21,6cm, but I don´t want the mylar Meinl heads. I don´t want mylar heads anymore! I´d like to try something new, like renaissance or fiberskyn.
Somebody here changed the Meinl head for a better one? -

Re: Remo fiberskin head for a Meinl He-3012
Thu, October 22, 2009 - 11:45 PMHi. Still looking for, but I think that 8.5" maybe is an exclusive format for Meinl darbukas and you only can fit there their ugly white mylar heads. They don´t sell neither the blue heads, I think they have a better sound.
Please share that photos about the fish skin on aluminium doumbeks! -

Re: Remo fiberskin head for a Meinl He-3012
Fri, October 23, 2009 - 7:26 PMI think you may be right, at least Remo doesn't make that size (8.5"/ 21.6 cm) or I am unable to get them for you guys. Sorry that didn't fit man, I hope you find use for that head. I'm going to talk to my supplier on monday about this. Hopefully we can find a head for that Meinl!!! -

Re: Remo fiberskin head for a Meinl He-3012
Fri, October 23, 2009 - 7:36 PMHey I want you guys to check out this link from Remo. Do you think this one would work or sound right on your Meinl's? It is the "calfskin" version of their Skyndeep line, so it may be too thick, but the diameter is correct.:
