Greetings,
It is not a middle-eastern drum, but I thought I would throw it out there anyway...
Does anyone know where I could acquire a "Hang drum" without having to travel to Bern Switzerland?
Any info is GREATLY appreciated.
Thank you!
Matthew

OBTAINING A NEW HANG IN NORTH AMERICA:
There are far fewer Hangs being made annually than a few years ago. The new
instruments are even more labour-intensive than the old. For more information, and/or to
get on the list to order a Hang, please contact us directly. In Canada, contact David at
hang@penguinmail. com. In the US, contact Ron, at musicinthemoment@ earthlink. net.
PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR PHONE NUMBER.
Thank you for your enthusiasm and patience,

Re: Hang Drum?
Wed, March 21, 2007 - 3:00 AMI thought I'd also respond.
Concerning a Hang Drum, I know a really wonderful steel drum maker in Portland whose name is
Michael Perkins.
He makes really small diatonic steel drums but has made me a couple of custom ones
(One is in a phrygian mode so I can play middleeastern and andulucian-esque music on it.)
What's so wonderful is that you can turn them upside down and play them like a frame drum with your hands
and get the same effect as Hang drum. It doesn't have the udu styled hole in it and it's not quite as beautiful
but it's also a hell of a hell of a lot cheaper than the Hang and is a really nice solution.
I'll try to hunt down Michael's address and publish it.

Re: Hang Drum?
Wed, March 21, 2007 - 3:02 AMMichael's business is
www.fancypanssteeldrums.com/about.htm
please let him know that I sent you if this intrigues anyone.
The mini pans cost $180 and are a perfect 'frame drum' size.
You actually turn them over and play them from the underneath side.
