KEVORK NEW WEB SITE

topic posted Mon, April 28, 2008 - 4:25 PM by  Julian
Hello everyone.
I am preparing a new web site form Mr. Kevork.
I decide to make him a new web site because I think he deserves a nice web site with lots of pictures, video clips and more.
Trying to get in touch with Mr. Kevork is rather difficult due to fact he is very busy man so I will try to put as much information on the web site as possible to help people understand the way it works to get his instruments.

So I am writing to you all good people if you could help me gather some pictures and videos you have with Kevork instruments (riq, darbuka, table and more). If you have a Kevork riq please make a photo and I will put it to his web site.
If you know someone has some videos or photos just email me.
Any help to make the GALLERY section will be appreciated.

Thanks

Julian

Hopefully it will be easier to acquire one of his instruments!

I think he could sell a lot more here in the USA if there were e-commerce or distributors...

If it wasn't for Johnny, it would be very limited indeed...

If he sells more, he'll have to ramp up production, put less time and care into each instrument, then like with anything (GaF, anyone?) the quality will go down, and the price will go up. I think it's a good thing that his instruments are hand made to order mostly and hard to get, cause if everyone has one, they're not that special anymore.

I wonder how long it's going to be before someone else starts doing what he does, but stateside... Soon, I hope.

Regarding the website could you please make it clear if this is a "tribute" website with or without Kevork's authorization, or is it an improvement on the one that he and his family members run?

This will be an official Kevork (new web site) web site and I have full authorization form Mr. Kevork to do the web site.
        The domain address will differ.

        Hello,

I agree with your statement, but its validity is entirely up to Mr. Kevork.

Ferrari could produce many more cars, they are all excellent automobiles. Their exclusiviity and rarity is what makes them special. Same kind of thing here...

Just because it may be easier to place an order, the quality is still up to him. The orders will take time to process, and it will be up to the customers to be patient. Some people may not want to wait 4 - 8 months for an order to be fullfilled. Many people cannot afford his work, and that alone is a big deterrent (and thus contributing to the exclusivity).

Eli Huli from Israel does some great work. His riqqs cost $700.00 with shipping included to the US. Comparable with Kevork.

Abdul Hamid Alwan (a retired Iraqi Engineer now living in Milwaukee WI) makes a good riqq and they are a fraction of the cost (like $120 - $200) but the finished product is not as elegant as Kevork, and the heads are not replaceable or tunable. His jingles are not swapable either, but it is well balanced and the sound is great (either fish or calf skin). They are lightweight and extremely easy to play. He's made two for me and another (GeF inlaid) that was reheaded and they all sound great.

        Namaste!

you think Kevork is hard to get ahold of from the US? well I even have hard time catching him every time I go to Lebanon lol :) He's a nice guy though, but he's not working as hard as before anymore. I'm going this summer to gonna pay him a visit to see what cool new stuff he has ;)
